“I am very satisfied. We played very disciplined in our choices. Japan played much faster than we used to, but we have raised our level. Although Japan did not begin with the strongest line-up, we los the second set. We stopped but after that we took the win” Gido Vermeulen commented.
Maret Grothues was a proud captain after the victory: “Of course, Japan is a rejuvenated team, but is still the winner of the Olympic bronze and a technical team that plays almost perfectly. We managed well and our blocking was great.”
The Netherlands made 22 direct block points.
Since Debby Stam-Pilon and Caroline Wensink were absent, Maret was named the captain as the most experienced player.
