Japan recorded a 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-22) victory over Australia to advance to the semifinals. The Japanese finished the preliminary and classification rounds with a perfect record while Australia were winless in the classification round. The Japanese made only 14 errors compared with 25 made by their rivals.
