It was the second victory for Sollys following their triumph over Bohai Bank in straight sets on Sunday.
Fernanda Rodrigues had 20 points, including three blocks, to lead the balanced offense of the winners. Sheilla Castro followed with 17 and Thaisa Menezes contributed 4 blocks among her 16 tallies. Adenizia Silva chipped in with 11 points.
Madelaynne Montaño had 17 points for Rabita Baku while Angelina Hubner-Grun scored 11, including three aces.
Sollys Nestle outblocked Rabita Baku 13-7 while the losers held a slight margin in aces 5-4.
Hubner-Grun’s attack and a block by Montaño gave Rabita Baku a 4-1 lead. After a time out, Sheilla scored for Sollys followed by an opponent error. Two formidable spikes by Montaño from the back court put Rabita in front 8-5. Montaño’s kill combined with two Sollys faults expanded the distance to 15-9. The second technical time out found Rabita Baku in front 16-12. Hubner-Grun served an ace after another Brazilian error. Adenizia Silva and Akinradewo traded spikes. Montaño continued with her personal show from the back court for 21-13 and Jaqueline crashed her spike into the net. Marra blocked the spike of Cruz and Jaqueline landed a lob to close the score at 22-16. Marra scored twice to put Sollys within four points. Marra’s block and Fernanda’s attack narrowed the gap to 22-20. Rabadzhieva and Adenizia exchanged big hits. Fernanda followed with another furious kill and the score was 23-22. Then it was Montaño who scored for set point from the left side and then decided the set in favor of Rabita with a spike off the block.
In the second, Sheilla led a 5-1 rally for Sollys with three spikes from the right side. Rabita Baku climbed back to 6-5 behind a block by Montaño and the ace by Hubner-Grun. Sheilla responded for the South American side with a clutch spike and Fernanda planted a big hit from the back side for an 8-5 Sollys’ advantage. Montaño continued showing her outstanding skills as attacker but Sheilla was not too far behind. Jaqueline served an ace off the net. Krsmanovic and Adenizia traded kills followed by a Menezes’ block. Sollys took a commanding lead at 14-7 when Fernanda landed another spike. The Brazilian club was in front 16-9 at the second pause. At 23-16, Fabiola Souza served a floating ace. Rabita rallied back with four consecutive points for 24-20 until Menezes finally closed the set with an attack from the middle.
Sollys was in front 8-5 in the third set. Montaño helped Rabita close within two points at 11-9 but Jaqueline restored the margin. Sheilla followed with a right cross court spike for a 13-9 advantage. The South Americans led 16-11 at the second TTO. Fernanda and Menezes continued to form a terrific tandem for Sollys the rest of the way as they cemented their comfortable lead. The set closed 25-19 for a 2-1 lead in favor of the Brazilians.
Jaqueline contributed to an 8-4 Sollys’ advantage in the fourth set when she executed a stubborn block against Montaño after her own spike. The defense at the net from Sollys improved even more. Fernanda scored her third block of the match for an 11-5 lead forcing a time-out from Rabita. Fernanda and Akinradewo exchanged kills and Hubner-Grun served long. Sollys led 16-10 after a spike from Sheilla down the right line. When play resumed Sheilla served an ace off the body of Hubner-Grun. Rabita closed within four points when Hubner-Grun blocked Adenizia’s running spike attempt. Adenizia came back to score without opposition on the next play. Menezes scored point 20 for Sollys while Fernanda followed with her 20th point of the match. Sollys won the fourth set 25-20 with a right spike by Sheilla.
