Unlike the meeting against the Netherlands, Andrea Anastasi nominated a slightly different composition to play.
Hosts gained an early lead (6-3) with a very good performance showed especially by Łukasz Wiśniewski who sent to the German side a few aces, increasing to 12-8. Few atomic attacks by Georg Grozer and Christian Fromm were enough for guests to enjoy a tie (12-12). “White-red” quickly mobilized, scoring five points in a row with a great contribution particularly by Bartosz Kurek. After a successful block on Kurek, Łukasz Żygadło decided to change strategy and played to Jakub Jarosz, giving his team the first match ball (24-19). Moments later, Wiśniewski sent a service ace.
The second set was much more even. Grozer could not make mistake in the attack but then after a block on him and a successful attack by Michał Kubiak, the Poles have achieved two-point lead (8-6). Germany put the “white and red” to the heights of their abilities, however, Poland was ahead (17-14, 19-16). German players dangerously approached the Poles in the end of the set (20-19). Than on the court appeared Wojciech Włodarczyk, with impressive service (23-19). Kubiak finished the second set with a successful attack (25:21).
Germany did not allow the Poles to develop high advantage in the decisive set. After the first technical break Germans had a minimum lead thanks to block (9-8). Fromm and Grozer led their team to two points advantage (13-11), but after a few successful actions the scales leaned in favor of the “white and red” (15-14). However, the breakthrough came after an attack from the middle blocker Marcus Bohme (21:19). It was the last point from the Germans on the match. The match effectively ended Bartosz Kurek, sending two aces and completed the 6-0 run (25-19).
Most efficiant in Poland was Jarosz with 12, while in Germany, Fromm and Kaliberda scored 9 points each.
On Sunday, the Poles will face current Olympic champions, the national of Russia at 14:30.
