LIVE from Krakow: Bartosz Kurek – “If we had pushed this match into tie-break…”

by WoV

Asseco Resovia failed to repeat the result from the last season when they reached the CEV Champions League Finals. This time, they got stopped at semis, but they should be proud on themselves despite the loss. Simply, because they were more than just a worthy opponent to mighty Zenit Kazan.

After the game, Bartosz Kurek of Asseco Resovia gave an interview for WorldofVolley.

Bartosz, what are you first impressions after the semis?

“I do not want to say that we expected this outcome, but of course that we expected a difficult game. We knew who we are facing, so we were aware that it would be extremely difficult to have the control over this game from the beginning to the end.  We did a good job at the start of the game, it was all going well for us, but after the second set everything fell apart. We made too many mistakes. Simply, when you are facing such a strong team you need to take a lot of risk. We tried, but it did not pay off.”

Was the second set the key part of this game?

“Yes, if we had won that set we would have had a better situation. I always believe that my team can prevail when the score is tied at 24:24… However, this time we lost it. I think that if we had pushed this match into the tie break, we would have been prepared for that crucial set. However, that did not happen.”

What can you say about the atmosphere in Tauron Arena?

“We are used to this. Our fans are always supporting us both in good and in bad moments. When you step on the court and you see that there are more than 10.000 fans cheering for you… It is just amazing. I am speechless. We owe them a big thanks.”
