A 30-year-old middle blocker, playing as an opposite hitter last season in Suntory Sunbirds (Japan), Dmitriy Muserskiy, posted on his Instagram profile, with the title “I’ve suffered for five years”, that he will not be able to help Russia national team in the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Nations League.

“Dear friends, this year I have to skip the Volleyball National League due to injury, which I sustained in August 2014, a week before the World Championship. To be more precise, it’s an inguinal hernia. At that time, it didn’t cause much discomfort, but over time, many of my movements became limited as it grew and grew. For more than one year I had to put up with the lack of ability to perform certain elements on the court without feeling the pain or risking more serious injury. And this risk increased each day. It couldn’t go on like that forever so it was decided that I should undergo surgery right now. Of course, I’ll do everything possible to recover fast, I also hope to be in the team for the Olympic Games Qualifications in August this year in Saint Petersburg. P.S.This is what a wrong way of practicing at the gym can lead to. Take care of yourself!” the 2012 London Olympics winner wrote.

An inguinal hernia occurs when tissue, such as part of the intestine, protrudes through a weak spot in the abdominal muscles. The resulting bulge can be painful, especially when you cough, bend over or lift a heavy object.
