Captain of Vakifbank Gözde Kirdar finished her volleyball career on the best way – as the MVP of the most prestigious European club championship.
“I’m really feeling amazing. I am the luckiest person in the world right now. I had an amazing career, I had an amazing team and everybody are happy so much. Twenty years in Vakifbank, twenty cups in my career, believe me, I am incredibly happy. I just want to thank everybody who helped me, who touched my career. I learned from many people many things. I am so grateful.”
How did you feel in the morning of your last game in a career?
“All morning since I woke up, I was O.K. Then I entered the court and realized that this was my last practice. For the last time I was touching the ball on the training; that I am doing my reception training last time… I started to cry a little bit but then I said to myself, girl you have the final so try to be the focus. It’s an interesting feeling because you are the captain, you must focus on your game and on the other hand, you need to forget that you are playing your last game and finishing your career. It’s hard but thanks God we took the Cup.”
Many people on the stands came to Bucharest only because of you?
“I don’t know what to say. They came from all over the world. My family all over Turkey, my sister from Poland, my father-in-law from Italy… I want to thanks everybody who came from me to Romania.”
What now?
“I don’t know. I just want to make a big family; that is my wish”
