After parting ways with HalkBank he could have chosen any volleyball club in the world. But, he was not looking for the money. He wanted to return to the place of his greatest success and to try to rebuild the famous powerhouse. Yes, his name is Radostin Stoychev, the head coach of Trentino.

Stoychev gave an exclusive interview for WorldofVolley. If you want to know his opinion about the current Trentino squad or if he is still in contact with HalkBank then you should continue reading.

What has changed in Trentino since you left a year ago?

“Everything has changed. Both the team and the budget, which is 30% smaller than before. Now we have eight players from our volleyball school and some foreign players which add more quality to the squad. We are trying to work hard, but we have a tight schedule and there is not much time for trainings.”

Are you satisfied with the way your team is playing at this moment

“We had a big problem at the beginning of this project, as we were without many players during the preparation period. Birarelli, Lanza and Colacci were with the Italian National Team, while we also had three players in the Italian Junior Team. Therefore, we could have started with the real training only recently. We are now trying to make a structure of our game. So far we are good in defense and blocking, but I hope that after two months it will all be even better.”

What is the main goal of Trentino in the current season?

“We can’t think about results at this moment.  Our main goal is to play good, improve our game and develop young players. Those are kids from 18 or 19 years and they are yet to become fully grown players. That is why I expect that we will have a significantly better team in the next season. With those youngsters and with perhaps one or two quality signings during the next summer, I think we will be ready.”

Which team do you consider as the main favorite in the Italian Championship?

“Lube has two quality players on every position and that is a big advantage over others if you consider the tight schedule. The second favorite would be Modena which is really, really strong. Then, there is Perugia, which made some big signings and created an excellent team. Piacenza is always good. It has experienced players, but we will see what will happen with the club after those financial problems. We are somewhere in the line with Piacenza, together with Verona and Latina. There are a lot of games in front of us. We will see what will happen.”

For the end, do you follow the results of your previous club HalkBank?

“Of course I do. But, I have so many things to do now, that I can only follow mere results. At this point, I am interested only in Trentino” concluded Stoychev.
