Polish volleyball superstar Michal Kubiak has signed for one of China’s top teams, Shanghai, after an impressive seven-year tenure with Japan’s Panasonic Panthers. This was announced by his management agency, LZ Sport.
Shanghai, which finished runners-up in the previous season of the Chinese league, hopes to regain the title with Kubiak’s addition. The club has set high expectations not only in the domestic league but also in other competitions. This will be Kubiak’s second stint in China, after a brief spell in 2018 when he bolstered the Beijing BAIC Motor towards the end of their season.
A mainstay in the Polish national team for a decade, Kubiak has a glittering career record with 17 medals to his name, including eight golds. He was part of the team that triumphed in the FIVB World League (2012), bagged five victories at the Wagner Memorial (2013, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2021), and clinched the world championship twice (2014 and 2018).
Moreover, Kubiak is a three-time Olympian, having represented his country in London 2012, Rio de Janeiro 2016, and Tokyo 2020. With his stellar performances wearing the Polish colors, he was recognized as the Best Outside Spiker at the 2015 FIVB World League, 2018 FIVB World Championship, and 2021 FIVB Nations League.
