In a triumphant win, Italy’s women’s volleyball team has advanced to the semifinals of the 2023 Women’s European Championship. They clinched their spot by defeating France 3-0 with scores of 25-14, 29-27, and 25-13 in the quarterfinals. The Palazzo Wanny in Florence was abuzz with about 4,000 ecstatic fans. Ekatarina Antropova was once again top scorer of the match with 14 points, followed by Elena Pietrini with 13 and Miriam Sylla with 10 points for Italy. On losing side Lucile Gicquel was the most effective with 12 points.
Unbeaten Journey
The Italian team’s undefeated run in the tournament has been nothing short of spectacular, commencing their journey with seven straight wins and zero sets lost. Their campaign began in Verona, proceeded to Monza and Turin, and culminated in a thrilling win in Florence.
Upcoming Semifinal Match
As they look ahead, the team will travel to Brussels for the semifinals on September 1st. They are set to face off against the winner of the quarterfinal match between Turkey and Poland.

Italy’s lineup, curated by coach Davide Mazzanti, featured Orro as the setter, Antropova as opposite, Sylla and Pietrini as outside hitters, Lubian-Danesi in the middle, and Fersino as libero. On the French side, the lineup included Stojilkovic as the setter, Gicquel as opposite, Cazaute and Rotar as outside hitters, Bauer and Sylves in the middle, and Giardino as libero.
