Japanese female volleyball player Risa Shinnabe disappointed fans in her country as she announced retiring!

An important piece of the Japan National Team, Shinnabe, has retired. It was an unexpected decision of the opposite hitter (outside hitter in the first few years of the career) given her age (29) and the fact that in a year from now, the Olympic Games will be held in her country.

“I decided to retire as an active player. I started playing volleyball in the first grade of elementary school, it was my whole life. It still doesn’t feel easy to retire from volleyball. During 11 years after joining Hisamitsu Pharmaceutical Springs, I had some difficult times and also fun, but I was able to continue doing my favorite activity, volleyball. It was all thanks to everyone who supported me,” Shinnabe stated for the website of the Springs, with which she won 5 national championships and 6 Empress’s Cups in those 11 years.

Individually, she was named V.League MVP once and Best Receiver three times. The greatest success with the Japan National Team, Shinnabe achieved in 2017 by winning the Asian Championship and being named MVP of the tournament.
