The Italian side Sir Colussi Sicoma Perugia went on the rematch of the 2018 CEV Champions League – Playoffs 6 against Lokomotiv Novosibirsk from Russia with a 3-1 win from the 1st leg. Knowing this, Perugia had to win two sets in the Siberia to advance to the Final Four in Kazan.
Lokomotiv did not give up that easily as they tied at 1-1 (20-25, 25-22), but a 6-1 run of Perugia in the third set at 18-15 extinguished all hopes of the Russian representatives. This set ended with a 25-17 for Italian giants. Perugia coach Lorenzo Bernardi gave Aleksandar Atanasijević and Simone Anzani a rest in the fourth set and changed the entire lineup in the tie-break. Perugia lost both sets (25-21, 15-11) and, ultimately, the match but achieved the main goal – advancing to the semifinals for the second season in a row. Interestingly, this was the first defeat of Perugia in the tournament this season in 10 games.
The Serbian Atanasijević topped Perugia with 16 points (3 aces, 2 kill blocks). Sergey Savin also scored 16 points, but for Lokomotiv, including 4 kill blocks.
Yesterday, Zaksa Kędzierzyn-Koźle became the first team to qualify for the Final Four via Playoffs 6.
