Giovanni Guidetti

We have information that you will leave German NT and take over the Italian NT? Is this info true?

“I had no one contact with the Italian federation and I have a valid and happy contract with German federation till the next World Championship with also an option to extend till next Olympic. I’m the happy coach of the German national team. This is the only reality“ explained Guidetti for our website.

Could you have done a better job as head coach of German national team?

Every coach like every player can always do a better job. But I am happy of what German team and German players did in the last years. I’m really proud of this! What we did in the last European Championship is the result of an incredible team that can play really like a team and that is never able to give up and don’t pushing so hard.“

You won everything with Vakifbank that one team could win. What is your motivation to stay in Vakifbank?

“Vakifbank is now the best team in the world, made from extraordinary players, an amazing staff and a sponsor and managment that give us all the best options for an excellent work. If i would think to leave this club I would be crazy. The truth is that we won a lot but is also true that we can win more and more and this is my and my players daily motivation

Would you share with us your secret of success?

An incredible passion for my job, a lot of fun in working a lot and hard, a great respect for every opponent that make me prepare every match like a Final.

In comparison to football and basketball, how much attention does volleyball get in Turkey?

Volleyball is growing so much in Turkey. There are a lots of televisions, a lots of media and a lots of spectators in the important matches. And what is more important and exciting is that the best players and coaches of the world are all here, woman and men.“

Which language you are using in your team?

English always, but there is also German and Italian and little little little bit of Turkish.

Would you accept an offer from any men’s volleyball team in the future?

Why not, I’m always open to a new challenge and i also believe that man and woman volleyball is not so different.“

Did you got used to living in Istanbul?

I love Istanbul. Not only because my wife is from Turkey but because is really a great city, metropolitan, cosmopolitan and so exciting. Every day something new to see and to do.

For which other coach you have a lot respect?

For many. It is impossible for me to say some names. From my father and my uncle, to Velasco and Doug Beal, and of course Bernardinho and Ze Roberto… but my list can be bigger and bigger. I ‘m trying to learn something from anyone every time. I respect every coach that is able to make his players better, doesn’t matter winning cups or not, a great coach is the one that make his players better and make his team play at 110%!

Do you read the WorldofVolley website? What do you think about it?

“Of course I read and i like it a lot! WorldofVolley is good and different! Of course you can find all what is happening in the world of volleyball but at the same time also lots of differents topics that are very usefull in my job. Congratulations to you.“ said Guidetti at the end of the interview.
