BRA M: Vôlei Renata secure big signature, comes Olympic champion Lucão

An Olympic champion from 2016 with the Brazil Men’s National Team, Lucas Saatkamp ‘Lucão’, is the new player of a club in his home country - Vôlei Renata (commonly known as Campinas).

 

Vôlei Renata will have the gold medalist from the 2016 Rio Olympic Games in their squad for the season 2021/22. The big man (2.10m), one of the best middle blockers in the world at the moment, Lucão arrived at the team from the São Paulo State, spending the last 3 seasons at EMS Taubaté Funvic.

A 35-year-old is a player whose career is filled with titles, not only in Brazil but also beyond. In his résumé, Lucão has 6 Brazilian Superliga titles, 4 state championships (Paulistas), 2 Brazilian Super Cups as well as Italian Championship, Italian Cup, and Italian Super Cup (all in the 2015/2016 season, when he played for Leo Shoes Modena) apiece. For the ‘Seleção’, in addition to the Olympic gold in 2016, the middle blocker also took the title in the 2010 FIVB World Championship, won the FIVB World Cup in 2019, the FIVB World League 2 times (2009 and 2010), FIVB World Grand Champions Cup 3 times, and South American Championship 5 times.

Out of major individual awards, Lucão was the one-time Best Middle Blocker of the FIVB World Championship, FIVB World League, and FIVB World Cup.
