Sheilla
When you ask her about this World Championship, she doesn’t hesitate and says:
“I’m sick and tired of getting the silver medal. It’s my fourth WCH and I want to win the title; we want to win because it will be the fantastic conclusion of a wonderful cycle. In particular for me, because I think that this will be my last WCH. In 2018, when the next WCH will take place, I’ll be 35 years old and in the meantime I’d like to start a family and to have a child”.
It’s thus the fourth WCH for Sheilla; in the previous editions this incredible player, born in Belo Horizonte and with more than 100 appearances in her national team, won twee silver and one bronze medals. Sheilla played also in Italy.
“It’s nice that you remember me. I played in Italy a long time ago (from 2004 to 2008), when I won Italian title, Supercoppa, CEV Cup, but I will always keeping my heart as a treasure that fantastic experience. And I was so young!”
This joke underlines her sympathy, one of the precious gifts and qualities of this wonderful volleyball player, since 1997 key actor with an enviable series of successes everywhere.
“I miss the world title with my national team – she repeats obsessively – It’s our chance to claim the gold medal, even if we are aware that it will be more difficult than in the past. The WCH Italy 2014 lasts longer involving a far greater expenditure of mental and physical energy. We want to reach the final, playing match by match, not thinking of the thirteenth challenge, the match for gold. We chase the title to which a whole country aspires”.
That’s true: Brazil, where volleyball goes arm in arm with football, wants it. Does this mean also more pressure on your team, doesn’t it?
“We feel the right pressure” – said Sheilla – “Tthat’s nothing new. We are Brazil and everyone expects always something more from us. Now everybody wants to see if we’ll achieve our goal, but my team will do its utmost best. We are focused and want to go as far as possible”.
The setters change, but Sheilla was and is stillBrazil’s opposite…
“I have fun now with Danielle Lins as in the past with the previous setters. Who knows me, knows also that I do my best in order to adapt as soon as possible my play to the new conditions and if sometimes I need to find a remedy, I try to do it and I’m often successful”.
