Italy does not have representatives in sitting volleyball at the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games but has former volleyball player competing in other discipline.

Caironi

A 26-year-old Martina Caironi, a flag-bearer for Italy at the opening ceremony of the Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro (September 7-18), is defending Paralympic champion in 100 metres from 2012 London. But, before losing a leg in the motor crash at the age of 18, she was a volleyball player.

Now, since Italy does not have its representatives in a sitting volleyball in Rio, Caironi will be country’s only athlete who has something to do with volleyball, although competing in track and field.

Visit official Rio Paralympics sitting volleyball page and find out results & schedule (Bosnia and Herzegovina in Men’s and China in Women’s competition are defending champions).
