These were great years in world volleyball... very beginning of a 21st century, super-interesting duels between several men’s national team powerhouses: Brazil, Russia, Italy, USA, Serbia and Montenegro, Poland... similar like today.

In that time, at the 2004 Athens Olympics final, Italy and Brazil were in a race for the gold medal after already having one breathtaking clash in pools stage – Brazil prevailed 3-2. The South American side obviously learned a lot more from this match as they pretty confidently beat Italy in the final 3-1 (25-15, 24-26, 25-20, 25-22).

This game had a highlight – Gilberto Godoy Filho, a.k.a. Giba! He scored game-high 20 points and added two spectacular defenses in a single rally in the first set…
