For the first time in the club history, Igor Gorgonzola Novara became the CEV Women’s Volleyball Champions League winners. And they did it less than two weeks after being swept in the Italian Championship finals against the rivals which they beat for the European title, Imoco Volley Conegliano.

There is one player in Novara roster who is simply a magnet for the CEV Champions League trophies – Francesca Piccinini. A 40-year-old outside hitter collected her seventh title in the most prestigious European club competition last night (five with Zanetti Bergamo, one with Èpiù Pomì Casalmaggiore and one with Igor Gorgonzola Novara).

“I feel extremely emotional. I wanted this title so bad and despite knowing it was going to be difficult, I believed in our chances. I have to congratulate all of my teammates because they all worked extremely hard and they played really well. This is especially true for Egonu, who is half my age, but despite being so young, she truly is a phenomenon,” Novara captain Piccinini stated after the Super Final against Imoco Volley Conegliano in Berlin.
