One novelty was the organization format, as 4 countries will host each tournament instead of a maximum number of 2 nations that have organized the Continental Championship (previously it happened 4 times in the Men’s competition and 5 times, including this year’s edition, in the Women’s competition).
Another milestone in the European volleyball history is the fact that a record-breaking 24 national teams, instead of maximum 16 so far, will take part in each EuroVolley 2019!
The 12 participants will be pre-determined – 4 hosts and 12 best-ranked sides from each Continental Championship. The rest of the places will be filled throughout Qualifiers.

Incompetent Boricic causing another bout of chaos!
Guess they’re trying to make ECH more accessible for less strong countries. That’s probably why the number of host countries got expanded. If they want to keep the ECH to go on on a similar pace as in the past a higher number of hosts could be necessary since most European countries are not that big or could possess enough stadiums of the required quality.
