CEV CUP: Logroño and IBSA make perfect night for Spanish Women’s volleyball, Brno go to 16th Finals in Men’s competition

Minis de Arluy VB Logroño and Ibsa CV Las Palmas joined Barça as the Spanish representatives in the 16th Finals of the 2018 CEV Challenge Cup.

The Spanish titleholders achieved a double straight-set win over Portuguese side AVC Famalicão in the 2nd Qualification Round with Helia González making 18 points for the winners in the rematch.

As for IBSA, they had a difficult job in the rematch against the Belgian club Amigos – Van Pelt Zoersel as they won the 1st leg by a 3-2. But, in the 2nd leg, they were much more confident, securing the spot in the 16th Finals of the tournament with a 3-1 win. Saray Manzano scored 24 points for IBSA tonight.

Charleroi Volley from Belgium completed the 16th Finals bracket as they eliminated the Finnish Pölkky Kuusamo with the 3-1 and 3-0 victories. Juliette Thévenin stood out in attack for Charleroi while Johanna Willemina Alons stood out in blocking with 7 kill blocks.

As for the Men’s competition, Volejbal Brno from the Czech Republic made it to the 16th Finals by defeating the Croatian side Mladost Ribola Kaštela by a 3-1 in the rematch (3-0 in the 1st leg) and completed the bracket. The Serbian Stefan Okošanović from Brno scored a game-high 20 points.
