Laurent Tillie, the France National Team head coach, could no longer remain silent on the fact that professional volleyball players have too much burden on their shoulders that comes up from an inhumane calendar of matches.

The France National Team has faced numerous problems for the European Olympic Qualification Tournament and it really upset its head coach Laurent Tillie, who left the impression of a bittered man due to all this in the interview for L’Équipe.

“There are a lot of injuries and mental weariness, too. This is why I started with an enlarged group (of 17 players) to test a maximum of possibilities. This international tournament, the only opportunity we have left to go to the Olympics, is particularly complicated to manage: we feel the pressure of the clubs who would prefer their players to rest. Some are also in the negotiation phase for the next season. And then, there’s also the continuous chain of competitions, the pace has become absolutely hellish. It’s a form of disrespect for the players. We don’t take their health enough into account, we push them to the maximum of their limits and this inevitably causes injuries. Earvin (Ngapeth), for example, played a semifinal and a final of the Russian Cup on December 25 and 26. The ’Italians’ were on the court on the evening of the 26th. And we brought them on the 27th to, oh how great it is, spend New Year’s Eve between themselves (laughter) and do an express preparation for a tournament of very high level. I have no answer but I understand that the International Federation is working on it…,“ Tillie stated.

Recall that the FIVB prepared the new calendar for 2020 that has a goal to help players to have more time to rest.
