The study that was commissioned by the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) and conducted by the Polytechnic of Turin for the purpose of safely restarting sports in the country after the coronavirus pandemic showed that volleyball is the most dangerous sport from the point of view of the risk of contagion with COVID-19!
Volleyball was put at the No.1 even in front sports having face-to-face challenges such as boxing or sports having direct physical contacts such as Basketball or rugby. The 404-page document released by the Polytechnic of Turin was made by collecting thousands of questionnaires distributed to the federations of 387 sports disciplines.

Very authentic matter you discussed
Sounds like mild nonsense.
Of course the BIGGEST risk in sport will be the ones where the MOST spectators turn up to watch. THEY are where the contagion will spread like wildfire.
Yes, a team game on a small ‘field/court’ will expose the players to more risk than a 1 on 1 sport – THERE’S MORE PLAYERS PER SQ M – but this summary sounds faintly ludicrous.
After seeing this, I went online and found the 404 page report. Whoever made that chart worked really hard to make the data read that way. In this report, numerous organizations (including each sport’s Italian governing federation) was asked to rank sports in 10 different categories in 4 different environments (so across 40 data points). I went through the data of 8 organizations which ranked the sports, and included the sport’s governing body’s ranking. Indoor volleyball ranked below Rugby, Basketball, Judo, and Soccer.
Re: @Grueny where were you able to find the report? I have had no luck.
I believe the study was about indoor 6’s volleyball. Many folks here is the US play outdoor (and some of us play without clothes) 4 on 4 and don’t high five each other. We also rotate about 5-6 balls that sit in the sun in between usage.
