ITA M: Perugia still on winning path

Sir Safety Perugia, just three days after the fantastic Champions League win against Halkbank, faced Calzedonia Verona at home court and took all three points – 3-1 (25-22, 26-24, 22-25, 25-20).

Both teams were close until the end of the first set, playing point by point, when Perugia detached with an ace of Luciano De Cecco for the lead of 22-19 before closing with 25-22.

The second set opened with Perugia gaining the advantage of five points (9-4) and arrived at the time-out with 12-7. But the response of players led by Andrea Giani was immediate (15-15), then they overtook (17-16) and just when it seemed they managed to close the set (22-24) Perugia made a run, winning it 26-24 and taking the lead by 2-0 in sets.

In the third set, Verona was more concrete, especially in the final and closed it with 22-25.

Fourth set remained in balance until the final sprint of Perugia who carried forward five points (20-15) before closing – 25-20.

Gabriele Maruotti scored 17 and Aleksandar Atanasijević 15 points for Perugia. Mitja Gašparini noted 15 and Sam Deroo 14 points for Verona.
