A great player remains great even when he makes a mistake. A great player remains great even when he agrees to bear the consequences of his mistake.

“I apologize and I’ll explain why… I was wrong, I broke a rule. I chose not to comply with the curfew set for 11:30 on Saturday night coming in the room at 2:30 AM. The subsequent removal has been hard, cruel to accept, but absolutely understandable and I refer to the decision taken by Mauro, the coaching staff and the Italian Volleyball Federation,” Zaytsev wrote.

“I betrayed their and trust of all teammates and I haven’t been an example to follow or imitate for those who support me. I have to apologize to everyone as I already did in Rio. My apologies to guys, Mauro Berruto and President Carlo Magri,” Italian star added.

In the continuation of the statement, Zaytsev explained that he wasn’t aware of the consequences, but doesn’t look for excuses.

He also wrote that he gave his best in the World League so far and that he will cheer for his teammates at the Final Six in Rio de Janeiro, expressing hope that the players who replaced him and three other excluded players will play good.
