The 1st Division match (the name suggests it’s a top division, but it’s actually a low-rank division) between the hosts San Valentino Volley and Fenice Cerignola was interrupted due to the intervention of a local police in the city of Andria in the third set.
Four police officers came in the gymnasium, asking everyone present to provide an identification document to determine who, besides players and a staff, can no longer stay at the venue. After conducting an identification process that lasted for about 15 minutes and caused tensions on and off the court, the policemen had two persons escorted out, both coming to watch the game as members of one of the clubs.
What was the reason for this absurd occurrence? As media reported, the problem was with the safety in the gymnasium. This season, the venue officials decided that the presence of an audience at the games of any sports discipline that is played in this polyvalent gymnasium is strictly forbidden due to a possible danger to them. Namely, during a training last year, the iron door in the warehouse of the gymnasium collapsed. Luckily, without injuring anyone.
