ITA M: Lube close to extending with Sokolov and Christenson, Juantorena chooses to stay

When you have so many world-class aces on your roster, it is logical that many clubs want to hire some of them. And it is also logical that you want to keep most of them. The transfer policy of Italian men’s volleyball champions Cucine Lube Civitanova will balance between these two intentions at the end of the season.

Giuseppe Cormio, the sports director of Lube, has spoken to volleyball.it on the moves SuperLega UnipolSai titleholders will make in the upcoming transfer market window.

“There are so many rumors that are the result of making up. The important thing is that every player gives its maximum on the floor.  Our priority is renewals. We are close to extending the contract with Sokolov and Christenson. I would say that Grebennikov is certain since we are waiting for signals from his attorney. Candellaro has our proposal in front of him but he is weighing his options,” Cormio stated.

“Furthermore, we will have to decide what to do with Sander, who has been struggling with injuries, by April. So, we still have a few months to activate or not the option for the second year regarding the American. It is normal for Lube to create own market moves but it is also clear there are those watching closely what’s going on in our environment in order to make their moves. I refer, for example, about Juantorena. There are so many rumors circulating about him but he has chosen to stay,” sports director of Lube added.

By saying this, Cormio indirectly confirmed he had an option of trading Juantorena for Wilfredo León on the table.

Osmany will turn 33 this year, he has his family there with him, no reason to move at this point of his life to somewhere else and even less out of Italy, they would have to pay him more than Leon to do it and he will think about it, Civitanova owners are sweet but everyone knows that Sanders is history, they will need someone stronger to help out Juantorena, could be Lucarrelli but he was injured from ACL and thats the worst injury ever, the only option is Leal, something less is throw your money and lose to Perugia. Lets see what happen.

I don’t know, I don’t know if it is worth for Sokolov to stay, he won only 9 points last time with Perugia. If there are high-stakes matches, it’s a bad game, for example at the Club World Championships in the final with Zenit.

In defense of Sokolov, I dont think he was 100% nor expected to play. It was a suprise to see him on the court.
