The Dominican Republic won their sixth gold medal at the Women’s Pan-American Cup, defeating the surprising finalists Colombia with a score of 3-1 (21-25, 25-13, 25-21, 25-16) in the Hermosillo, Mexico. Previously, the ’Reinas del Caribe’ won the title in the annual tournament organized by NORCECA that now serves as an America qualifier for the Pan American Games classification, in 2008, 2010, 2014, 2016, and 2021. For Colombia, this was their first appearance in the gold medal encounter to which they came after topping Pool B and outplaying the USA in the semis – the win that was marked historical for the country’s women’s volleyball given that never before has Colombia beaten the world’s No.1 ranked national team nor the Olympic champion. The United States is both but came to the tournament with an alternate roster.

Bethania de la Cruz from the Dominican Republic was the final game’s top scorer with 23 points. With 17 points, Ana Karina Olaya was the best in Colombia. The setter and team captain of the Dominican Republic, Niverka Marte, was selected as the MVP of the 19th Women’s Pan-American Cup.
