Colombia secured its spot in the semifinals of the Women’s Pan American Cup, finishing first in Pool A after a decisive 3-1 victory over Mexico. The match, held at the Domo de La Feria in León, Guanajuato, saw Colombia triumph with set scores of 26-24, 23-25, 25-23, and 25-21.
With this win, Colombia leads Pool A, while Mexico, which ended the pool stage in third place with a 3-2 record, is set to face Argentina in the quarterfinals. The Dominican Republic, finishing second in the pool with a 4-1 record, will compete against Puerto Rico in the other quarterfinal.
Colombian players Ana Karina Olaya, Dayana Segovia, Laura Grajales, and Valerin Carabali were key to the victory. Olaya led with 18 points, Segovia contributed 13, and both Grajales and Carabali added 11 points each. Carabali also excelled defensively with nine blocks.
For Mexico, Grecia Castro was the standout performer with 24 points, followed by Karina Flores with 21 points and Uxue Guereca with 14. Team captain Jocelyn Urías added 11 points.
In other tournament news, the United States finished unbeaten in Pool B, defeating Argentina 3-1 to secure a direct semifinal berth. Argentina, which ended with a 4-1 record, will play Mexico in the quarterfinals. The Dominican Republic’s commanding 3-0 win over Canada ensured their place in the quarterfinals, while Canada will compete in the 7-10 position matches.
Cuba defeated Chile 3-0 to secure fourth place in Pool B, while Puerto Rico advanced to the quarterfinals with a 3-0 win over Costa Rica. Peru ended the group stage with a decisive 3-0 victory over Suriname but will now compete for positions 7-10.
