Puerto Rico staged a comeback after losing the first set to defeat Mexico 3-1 in their NORCECA Men’s Final Six match at the Slush Puppie Centre arena. The final scoreline was 1-3 (25-18, 26-28, 19-25, 20-25).
Despite Mexico’s aggressive performance, marked by a 52-46 advantage in attack points and a slight edge in ace serves (8-6), Puerto Rico outperformed in crucial areas. Puerto Rico’s superior blocking (17-8) and fewer errors (22-27) ultimately secured their victory.
Jamal Ellis Carballo was instrumental for Puerto Rico, delivering an impressive 31 points through 24 attacks, four blocks, and three aces. For Mexico, Franky Hernández Milantony led the scoring with 17 points, including four aces.
This victory marked Puerto Rico’s first win of the tournament, while Mexico now holds a 2-2 record.
In match plaed day before, Canada secured its third consecutive win at the Men’s Final Six, defeating Cuba 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-21). Canada remains unbeaten with a perfect 3-0 record, while Cuba has one win and two losses.
Canada led in all major statistical categories, including attack points (46-41), blocks (10-5), and ace serves (5-1). Cuba had fewer errors (14-17), but could not match Canada’s overall performance.
Skyler Varga was the standout performer for Canada, scoring 18 points, while Reeve Gingera added 13 points, including nine attacks, one block, and three aces. Bryan Camino Martinez led Cuba with 13 points.
The United States also maintains a 3-0 record at the tournament, continuing their strong performance at the Slush Puppie Centre.
