NORCECA M: St Lucia advances to third round in NORCECA

St Lucia topped the NORCECA Second Round Pool J Tournament of the 2014 FIVB Men’s World Championships, clinically dismissing Haiti 3-1 to advance to the third round of the region on Sunday. Read more volleyball news on worldofvolley.com.

This step clears another pathway as they quest to be among five teams from NORCECA Confederation to head to Poland for next year’s grand finale.

Taking charge of the St Lucians’ score sheet on the night was once again the combination of Joseph Clercent whose account stood at 24 points and Julian Bissette, who registered 18 points. Haiti’s tally saw Emmanuel Fritz Emmanuel accounting for a match-high 28 points while Ralph Adolphe added 14.

An overjoyed and triumphant coach Kendall Charlery said: “There is nothing to describe the way I feel … We are excited and elated for this win, which takes us into the next round.

Haiti 3, El Salvador 1

Haiti earned a hard fought 3-1 (19-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-22) victory over El Salvador to set up Pool J. The win put Haiti on 10 points, one more than El Salvador, as a three way fight could be established for the top spots to go to the final. Haiti handed St Kitts and Nevis a 3-0 defeat, but lost to St Lucia 3-1. El Salvador beat St and Nevis and St Lucia, both by 3-1 margins. Emmanuel Mabou had 24 points in the winning cause while Carlos Amaya finished with 18 for the defeated side.

 St Lucia defeated St Kitts and Nevis 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-18) and will contest Haiti the men’s final. St Lucia needed to defeat St Kitts and Nevis 3-0 to reach the final against the Haitians both with 10 points. El Salvador finished also with 2-1 win-loss record but fell short with 9 points. St Lucia’s scoring was led by the duo of Julian Bissette and Joseph Clercent who registered 19 and 12 points respectively. For St Kitts and Nevis, St Clair Hodge was their leading scorer with 10 points.

El Salvador 3, St Kitts and Nevis 0

El Salvador disposed of St Kitts and Nevis 3 -0 (25-16, 25 -22, 25-21) to earn the third place. The Salvadorians, who at one point were in pole position for a place in the final having defeated St Kitts and Nevis and St Lucia before losing to Haiti in their last preliminary match, were all over a depleted St Kitts and Nevis outfit. David Vargas and Francisco Hernandez had 13 and 11 points respectively for El Salvador, while Shawn Seabrooks with 21 and St Clair Hodge with 10, led the scoring for the winless St Kitts and Nevis.
