„Last year we started a process whereby our national team is being rejuvenated” head coach Janis Leitis says. „Since we played our first international matches after a long break, our goal was to beat Cyprus and make it to the second round of the European Championship, which we eventually did. In comparison with last year, we have added to the group more players from the junior and youth national team who have got their share of international experience so our goal is to play as good as we can thereby securing a good future to our team”.

Latvia men’s national team will start its World Championship campaign this weekend as well in Rakvere (EST) where Gundars Celitans & Co. are set to play hosts Estonia, Belarus and Denmark. One week later the Latvian guys will be trying to seize one of the last three tickets available for the final round of the 2013 European Championship playing Turkey in home and away matches.
