Andrey Voronkov is no longer the head coach of Russia, while his successor might be the coach who was also his predecessor – Vladimir Alekno!
The current head coach of Zenit Kazan was at the helm of Russia in 2012 when this team won the gold medal at the Olympic Games in London. After that, Alekno stepped down from the position of the head coach and gave the command to Andrey Voronkov… But, that change has not brought a lot of good things to Russian volleyball.
The latest disaster at the World League 2015 (score 0-10) made Voronkov resign from the position of the head coach of Russia, and it seems that this time Alekno will replace him.
“For me it has always been an honor to work with the national team. If the Federation thinks that I can help, then of course I will take the job” said Alekno to R-Sport.
His club Zenit also announced that it will not make problems to Alekno to lead both the club and the national team.
