The transfer closed by the four-time titleholders of the Turkish Men’s Volleyball Championship, Galatasaray HDI Sigorta, is one of those that attracted the most attention this summer thus far.
Thomas Edgar, the record holder for points by a player in a single match in the national teams’ competitions, has returned to play in Europe after almost a decade, according to the Turkish media.
Since 2013 and parting ways with Italy’s Sir Safety Conad Perugia, the Australian bomber was a protagonist in Asian club competitions, interrupted with a one-season engagement in Argentina, at Bolívar Voley, where he was named league’s MVP, Best Scorer, and Best Opposite Spiker. Just turned 33, Edgar has played the last five seasons in Japan with the JT Thunders Hiroshima; previously he had also played in South Korea and China. During that time, the opposite hitter took several individual awards, such as Best Scorer of the 2015-16 Chinese League and Best Outside Spiker of Japan’s V.League two seasons in a row (2017-18 and 2018-19).
