VakıfBank narrowly avoided their second defeat in the 2022–23 Turkish Women’s Volleyball Championship.
Round 10 of the 2022-23 Misli.com Sultanlar Ligi brought an exciting duel between Galatasaray HDI Sigorta and VakıfBank. The ’Lionesses’ desperately wanted to get out of the ’minus phase’ during which they suffered three defeats in the last four matches. And they made the rivals tremble. Galatasaray played two perfect sets and forced the reigning champions of Turkey, Europe, and the world to seek a win in the tie-break.
Paola Egonu top-scored VakıfBank with 29 points, helping the team to record the fifth win in a row and remain the vice-leader. Cansu Özbay collected 4 blocks, while Brazilian Gabriela Guimarães ’Gabi’ had 73% reception (11 digs, 64% perfect). The individual with the most points earned came from Galatasaray, currently, in fifth place in the charts – Greek Anthí Vasilantonáki scored 32.
