Gizem, who already shocked volleyball fans in Turkey by moving from the Swiss powerhouse Volero Zürich to Bursa Büyükşehir Belediye this summer, decided to change the club in the mid-season. A 30-year-old libero has reinforced Bursa’s rivals in the Vestel venus Sultanlar Ligi, Galatasaray, for whom she already competed in the 2008/2009 season.
During her rich career, Gizem wore the jersey of several Turkish giants, like Vakıfbank İstanbul and Fenerbahçe İstanbul, and won many team and individual awards: she was the winner of the CEV Champions League twice, FIVB World Club Championship once, Turkish Championships twice, Turkish Cup twice, Turkish Super Cup three times, Swiss Championship and Swiss Cup once each.
In addition, Gizem was awarded Best Libero many times, for instance in the 2010/11 CEV Champions League Final Four, 2010/11 FIVB World Grand Prix, and 2011 FIVB World Club Championship.
She penned a contract with Galatasaray for one and a half years.
Does this mean that the transfer of the Dominican Brenda Castillo to Galatasaray will remain only a rumor or Turkish runners-up plan to pair her up with Gizem?
