The President of the Italian Volleyball Federation (Fipav), Bruno Cattaneo, stated that it is in the best interest of the female volleyball in the country to reduce the number of foreign players in the national championship Serie A1 and Serie A2 (top division and Division 2).

“In the next 3-4 years, we have to remove one foreigner from the championship. For the upcoming championship, since the clubs have already closed the composition, the cut did not seem right. For the 2018/19 A1 and A2 Women’s championships there will be a foreigner less in each team,” Cattaneo explained his solution to strengthen the National Team of Italy, who made a disappointing result in the 2017 CEV European Championship.

According to the current rules, each team must have at least 4 players of the Italian nationality in the field in every moment (starting 6 + libero). In addition, as from this season, the maximum two players from one federation are allowed to be on the roster of each team.

The new regulation of cutting the number of foreigners will not apply for the Men’s championship, for now.

He`s right by doing that. This is how it is in Brazil only 2 foreigner in each team and they have won 2 Olympics, and medals in WCH, WCC, GP and so on. In Japan only 1 foreigner in each team.
