The runners-up of the last Brazilian Men’s Volleyball Championship, Fiat/Gerdau/Minas, kept the core of the roster.
The veteran William Arjona, the Olympic champion in Rio in 2016 and South American champion in 2013 with the Brazil National Team, renewed with Minas. The Belo Horizonte side announced the continuation of the collaboration with their captain for the 2022-23 season. ’Mago’ (Magician) will defend the colors of the Superliga vice-champions for the third consecutive year. Wearing the Minas jersey, the 42-year-old setter became the winner of the Brazilian Cup in 2022 and was also elected the Best Setter of the Superliga in the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons.
Another veteran will remain at Minas. The 39-year-old opposite hitter Leandro Vissotto is synonymous with prominence wherever he plays. In his second spell at the club, the world champion in 2020 with Brazil Men took the trophy in the Copa Brasil (2022), while he won Campeonato Mineiro (2005) in his first term as a Minas member. Vissotto was also elected the Best Opposite Spiker of the last edition of the South American Club Championship.
In addition to these two players, Minas have announced the renewal of outside hitter Henrique Honorato and middle blocker Matheus Bispo ’Pinta’.
