After the departure of Slobodan Kovac from the PGE Skra Belchatow’s bench, the Polish powerhouse tried to find a coach that will fulfill their goals in the upcoming 2022/2023 season.
Today, the choice has been made – it’s Joel Banks, head coach of the Finnish national team.
Joel Banks – 47-year-old British, former coach of Belgian Noliko Maaseik, with whom he won two Belgian championships – in the upcoming season will try to win the championship title and even win the European CEV Cup.
“The possibility of coaching PGE Skra Bełchatów is something fantastic for me. I am very excited to work in PlusLiga, but especially that it will be PGE Skra Bełchatów. It is a recognized brand, known throughout Europe, with a rich tradition and numerous successes both in the domestic league and European cups. This is a great challenge for me, but also something that I was undoubtedly looking for. I am looking forward to starting work in Bełchatów,” says Joel Banks.
“We decided to put on a coach who, on the one hand, will bring fresh energy and a new look to the club, and on the other – has the necessary experience to prepare the team for a long, demanding season. Joel Banks has many years of work in Belgium, two national championship titles with Noliko, regular play in the Champions League and work with the Finnish national team, and at the same time is a very ambitious man and hungry for success. Before the new season, we set ourselves high goals and we want to pursue them together with coach Banks,” – says Konrad Piechocki, president of PGE Skra Bełchatów.
