As Slovenian website siol.net published, the question of whether Gheorghe Cretu will remain as the coach of the Slovenian men’s volleyball team still doesn’t have an answer. The president of the Volleyball Federation of Slovenia (OZS), Metod Ropret, stated that “we are significantly closer to an agreement than we have ever been before.” He is optimistic that they will eventually reach an agreement. If they are unable to do so, they will have to turn to a backup plan. “But it must be understood that the Olympic Games are at stake. Starting from scratch again could be difficult. We did it last year and somehow it worked out for us, but it’s not a good idea to challenge luck every year,” says Ropret.

The Volleyball Federation of Slovenia agreed to cooperate with Cretu until the end of the World Championship, after which talks would begin regarding a possible extension of his contract. However, at the end of January, they announced that they were unable to reach an agreement with Cretu as their wishes and realities had started to diverge. But at the end of February, there was a turnaround. During a press conference summarizing the past season, the president of the Volleyball Federation of Slovenia (OZS), Metod Ropret, stated that Cretu might not be a thing of the past yet and that “they would do everything to keep him.”
