It was a thrilling encounter between Türkiye and Poland at a packed arena in the quarter-final of the European Women’s Volleyball Championship. Despite a strong start from the Polish side, leading by as many as four points midway through the first set, Türkiye remained undeterred and fought back valiantly to claim victory in straight sets (25:23, 25:22, 25:18).
Melissa Vargas was the star of the show, racking up 24 points to power Türkiye to victory and secure their place in the semi-finals. This makes Türkiye the third team to advance to the semi-finals of the championship. Their journey to the top four was not without challenges, as Poland put up a strong fight, particularly in the first set where they led 16:13. However, Türkiye managed to shift the momentum in their favor, making a comeback in the second set from 21:18 down, and then dominating the third set to seal their spot in the semi-finals.
Vargas’ exceptional performance was supported by Ebrar Karakurt, who contributed 14 points. On the Polish side, Agnieszka Korneluk was the top scorer with 13 points, followed by Magdalena Stysiak with 12.
Türkiye will now face Italy in what promises to be a nail-biting semi-final clash. With Türkiye riding high on confidence after their win against Poland and Vargas in top form, it will undoubtedly be a match to watch.
