After a dramatic second leg of the 3rd Round of the 2020 CEV Champions League against VK UP Olomouc, Khimik Yuzhny entered the history of Ukrainian women’s volleyball as the first team from this country to secure a berth in the group stage of the strongest club competition in Europe. Khimik enjoyed home-court advantage after winning the first leg in the Czech Republic by a 3-2. In the rematch, they got a 2-0 lead in the sets but allowed Olomouc to earn the right to play the Golden Set which they ultimately lost by a 15-13.

The complicated journey to Ukraine took its toll on Olomouc. The Czech team got stuck at the airport in Warsaw because they missed a connected flight to Odessa. They left the Polish capital in the morning on the day of the match and thus had the minimum preparation and acclimatization time upon arriving in Yuzhny.

Yuliya Boyko top-scored for Khimik with 21 points. Veronika Trnková made 19 points for Olomouc, while Bulgarian Veronika Bezhandolska set up 6 kill blocks. The drawing of lots has put Khimik in Pool C of the CEV Champions League.
