A team with the worst score in the 2019/20 Italian Women’s Volleyball Championship regular season Bartoccini Fortinfissi Perugia defeated leaders Imoco Volley Conegliano!

Today, Perugia wrote down only their second victory of the season in the Lega Pallavolo Serie A Femminile and still occupy the last place in the charts. But they beat club world champions Imoco by a 3-2 (25-15, 23-25, 25-18, 17-25, 15-10) in a postponed match of Round 9! Only four days after becoming planetary champions, Imoco head coach Santarelli decided not to put in protocol neither of the players from the lineup that lifted the trophy in China, giving space to the backups and youth team members. So, the victory of Perugia that ended Imoco’s unbeaten run of nine games isn’t really a sensation. Brazilian duo Regiane Bidias “Régis” and Rosamaria Montibeller scored 24 points apiece for the winning side. American Chiaka Ogbogu tallied 21 points, including 8 kill blocks! The 19-year-old libero Eleonora Fersino made 83% reception (35 digs, 74% perfect).

Another team that just came back from the Club World Championship suffered the same fate today. Igor Gorgonzola Novara, whose head coach Barbolini unlike Imoco’s didn’t give a day off to main players lost at home to Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri.

Yet again another evidence , in Italy you can't win even against the lowest ranking team unless you give your 100%

'The IRIVF has unofficially set the goal of winning a medal in the next year’s Tokyo Olympics'
It sounds unreal or at least very hard to set as a main target keeping in mind there are teams like Brazil, Poland, USA, Russia or France that are considered better and more entitled than Iran. Just my opinion. Reply

POL M: Wilfredo Leon – “It would be dangerous to play in front of the fans…”

Wilfredo Leon - a big respect for such a statement... Very rare, reasonable and sober opinion in this complicated, pandemic situation.. He thinks on older, and vulnarable persons.... I expect that also other top world athletes, coaches, officials will join such a proclamation... But it is not enough without specifying and keeping complex, preventive, epidemiological measures on volleyball courts, halls ... Better not comment what we could still observe on them.. Reply
