The first gathering of the 1st Croatian Beach Volleyball League in Zagreb was marked by attractive matches for seniors, and it can be sensed that this summer the league will be very interesting and tense until the very end.

Eight clubs competed in the women's and men's competitions on the sandy courts at Jarun, in each of which 56 matches were played, which means that as many as 112 volleyball matches were played in two days. After the gathering in Zagreb, the rankings are led by KOP Siget for volleyball players and KOP Opatija for volleyball players.

"Under normal circumstances, individual championships are held every summer in addition to the club championship, but because of the coronavirus, everything has changed and this year we have a great interest in the club championship. We have two or three clubs that stand out from the others, and the first matches in Zagreb show that it will be an exciting fight for the champion. "- said Tomislav Karaula, the Commissioner of the HOS competition for the club championship in beach volleyball, and added:" It was hellishly hot in Zagreb, it is certainly 35-40 degrees on the field. We are satisfied with the players who adhere to the distance and all other prescribed measures, I would like to emphasize that. ''

The Beach Volleyball Club Championship is organized by the Croatian Volleyball Federation, and this is the 15th consecutive edition of the championship. In Zagreb, KOP Siget, KOP Žnjan, HAOK Žal Banjole (Pula), KOP Čakovec, KOP Opatija, KOP Retfala, ŽKOP Jarun and AOK Osijek competed in the women's competition. With six victories in seven matches and 13 points, the first place was taken by the team from Siget, one of the favorites to win the championship.

"We have high expectations from the Croatian championship this summer because we compete in many age categories, we had good results last year and we expect them this year as well. As for the senior championship, we are always among the top three teams, so we want to confirm that this summer as well. '' - said Erika Drviš from HAOK Žal Banjole.

The senior competition consisted of KOP Opatija, KOP Siget, KOP Zagreb, KOP Žnjan, KOP Čazma, KOP Retfala (Osijek), KOP Čakovec and HAOK Žal Banjole (Pula).

"Corona disrupted our plans a lot, all tournaments in Croatia were canceled as far as the individual championship is concerned. I play for KOP Opatija here, we are quite weakened because otherwise a lot of our team is made up of Serbs and one Slovenian, who could not come because of the pandemic, so there are only four of us here. Anyway, I expect good volleyball in the championship, there are good teams here and I don't remember when more teams were registered, so anything can happen! '' - said Filip Silić from KOP Opatija, which took first place, winning 13 points in seven matches.

The championship continues after Zagreb in Pula on July 11 and 12, and the winners of the seniors will be known after the finals, which will be played in Podstrana (Split) on July 25 and 26. In addition to the club championship, the Croatian Individual Championship for juniors under 18 will be held in Split, from July 3 to 5, the Club Championship for juniors (Zagreb, July 17-19, Split, August 21-23, Pula August 28-30) and the Croatian Club Cup, which will be played from August 14 to 16 in Zagreb.

FIVB releases new men’s and women’s world rankings

This is more laughable :) In 2017 turkey was the 12th country in old ranking list
behind the 11th argentina. Then the turks played eurovolley 2017 semifinal (took
bronze) and then vnl 2018 final, vnl 2019 semifinal, eurovolley 2019 final and won
the 2020 european olympic qualification tournament. After all of these, they were
still the 12th team behind the 11th argentina.:D:D:D

Of course the new rankings are more realistic and fairer,I think, but plz note they are not to tell which NT is stronger but to reflect potentials of countries by taking all their performances in a time span into account.

Well, serbia, world and european champ, but has no vnl / world cup medal so far,
why,if they are so mighty? Ok , we all know/guess why, but the ranking system don't pay attention why and it shouldn't for a healty evaluation of serbia's potential.

I also accept serbia's ideal line-up is presently the strongest NT,but this issue is something different. Reply

By Mark Lebedew: The Best Player You Might Have Heard Of...but have probably forgotten

Older video, records and analyses, editing, research by Mark Lebedew are very interesting. I take his work as priceless.. No one else do such a work...He provides us with many volleyball jewels, observations.. In past we often could not see many top tournaments, or matches on TV ….There was no Internet, no YT. Only very limited TV ... We often did not know the background, problems on some tournaments - see e.g. what happened during Italy vs Netherlands OG 1992, on M.L. YT channel, and how it had influenced a final with Brazil..
In time of pandemic, we can take a lesson from some former activities on courts . In past there was a much more decent behaviour during matches, avoiding useless personal contacts , no so and such intimacy as nowadays, no expressive shouting as is a current rule after killing spike or blocks, ourts... Only at the end of the match, tournaments emotions were same as now... (Now we see on 75 and more the useless, risky, ritual teamś hugging per a match) .. Moreover until 1998, volleyball was for TV fans very friendly - due to of a perfect visible. recognizable white ball. Since this time, the screen fans eyes suffer - volleyball has become a pantomime on screens.
Moreover the game was much more smoothly - no so many and so long interruptions as nowadays.. Majority of referees had a respect..
I suppose, if volleyball wants to survive this pandemic crisis, it will have to return to some above mentioned procedures.. Systematically...
