Despite the fact the match against the Netherlands was a friendly match, the debut of Cuban-born León was long-awaited by the Polish fans. A few days before the match, the outside hitter officially became eligible to compete for Poland. Poland defeated the Dutch side in Opole in straight sets in the match that served as a preparation for the International Olympic Qualifier for the 2020 Tokyo Games.

So, 7 years after his last appearance for Cuba, León made another national team debut, this time for Poland. The world Volleyball superstar went out for the warm-up as the last of all players, which was a decision of the coaching staff in order to receive ovations from the crowd. And he did.

León finished the match with 9 points in 2 sets (8/11 attack, one ace), having a stage fright in the opening set and making some mistakes that are untypical for him, the Polish media reported. But, he started to show his best in the 2nd set. Poland swept the Dutch side by a 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-22). The 2 teams agreed to play an additional set in which Poland also prevailed (25-21).
