How true are rumors that you are a candidate to take over the Serbian National Team?

It is possible, but I want to say that so far there was no official contact. But, I also want to say I would feel honored if such a prestigious National Team approached me. Over the years I have worked with many Serbian players including Grbić, Starović, Janić and curently with Stanković and Podraščanin, and I learned that all of them are not just extraordinary players, but also remarkable persons.“

Let us now talk about club’s volleyball. Your Lube is having great results. Can you compare this team with the one which won the Serie A in the last season?

Those two teams are very similar. This year we added some important players to the roster, such as Giulio Sabbi, a young player with a huge potential, and Alessandro Fei, an experienced one with well known skills. They have been assigned to replace Ivan Zaytsev, and the results show us that we made the right choice when signing them.”

But do you ever think about having Zaytsev also in this squad? Do you think that club and the player made the right choice when parting ways last summer?

“Ivan is certainly not the same player who had arrived in Macerata three years ago. His skills and personality have grown while he was with us, but I believe that he can be replaced by Sabbi.”

Which teams do you see as your biggest competitors in the Serie A?

“Those would be Modena, Trentino and Perugia. Personally, I really appreciate teams of Latina and Verona, which are both built very well.”

Your only loss in this season came in the Champions League against Fenerbahce. How far can Lube go in this competition?

“We have a very tough Pool and our priority is to qualify for the next stage. But, looking a bit further, I think that Russian teams, with Belogorie in front, then HalkBank, PGE Skra Belchatow and Perugia are the main favorites for the trophy.”
