Russia are going to Rio! They have won the tournament in Ankara after beating Netherlands in four sets! It was the end of a trully extraordinary story that have had a lot of twists during the last couple of months.

Recall that it was not certain that Russia will travel to Turkey at all, due to strained relations between two countries. Most of the players were afraid to go to Ankara, but they finally decided to go the European Olympic Qualifer and eventually won the the tournament… They won the ticket for the Olympic Games 2016.

Russia won all 5 games in Ankara, while the last one against the Netherlands was kind of a replay of big final of the European Championship. Once again the Russian side had two simply dominant players. Nataliya Obmochaeva scored 24 points, including the last two at the game, while Tatiana Kosheleva added 23. They led their team toward the victory.

That means european champion should go to olympic games directly., no need to repeat the european final again and again. Congrats to Russia and good luck to the netherlands in the next olympic qualification.
