Last summer Felipe Fonteles made a big decision. He chose to leave Europe and to return to Brazil by accepting the offer from Funvic/Taubate.

One year later, Fonteles said in the interview for WorldofVolley that he made the right choice. Excellent receiver stated that his first season in Taubate was a true success.

“The Brazilian Championship was a littlebit stronger than I expected. The level of competition was very high and teams were pretty much equal. For us the season was amazing, We won two trophies out of three, we made it to the semi-finals of the SuperLeague, so we definitely fulfilled our goals. For the next season we are aiming a bit higher. We want to fight for the national title. There are no excuses, we formed a very good team and I hope we will make it” said Felipe and then continued:

“Looking only at my game, I am satisfied with the season. The most important thing was that there were no injuries, while I think I played on a pretty good level and that I managed to fulfill expectations of my club.”

Like in the case of Ricardo LucarelliFelipe Fonteles also received plenty of offers from Europe after the end of the season, however he decided to stay in Brazil and continue his adventure with Taubate. The reason is…

“The Olympic Games! When I came back to Brazil I made the Olympic tournament my primary target. I have talked with the coaches in the national team and I said to them that I will play in the country until the Olympic Games in Rio 2016. After that I do not what will happen. I do not know whether I will stay in Brazil or whether I will keep playing at all. We will see. At the moment my entire focus is pointed to the Olympic Games.”

Before returning to Brazil, experienced Brazilian played for Fenerbahce. He stated that he was following the results of his ex-team and that he is sorry for the bad season they had.

“I was talking a lot with Daniel Castellani (former head coach of Fenerbahce). He is my mentor and a very good friend, so we talked a lot. They had a good team, but unfortunately things sometimes do not work as expected. I do not what happened because I was not there, but anyway I wish Fenerbahce all the best in the next season. It is a big club which always aims for the big cups.”
