Before the game, Cruzeiro suffered only two defeats in Superliga this season, but neither at the home ground. Vôlei Renata became the first team to surpass defending champs in front of their crowd, 3-1 (16-25, 26-24, 25-22, 25-16). One of the reasons for Vôlei Renata’s stunner lies in the fact Cruzeiro coach Marcelo Méndez mixed his team’s lineup a bit, leaving Uriarte and Filipe on the bench from the start, and Leal from the third set.

Leandro Vissotto topped Vôlei Renata with 16 points (3 aces), while Vinícius Siqueira “Vini” made 5 kill blocks. Rodrigo Leão scored 13 points for Cruzeiro. Sérgio Nogueira “Serginho” recorded 75% reception (20 digs, 3 errors, 40% excellent).

The result has no effect on the standings when it comes to Cruzeiro as they secured the first place in Superliga regular season earlier, having 54 points (18-3). Vôlei Renata moved up to sixth place with 31 points (10-11).

There is one more round in the regular season left to be played.
