Although the list of players that started preparations for the World Championship in September was not announced, Bulgarian media reported that 21 players gathered up, month and a half before the start of the tournament. But, unfortunately for Bulgarian fans, one big name fell off the list – Georgi Bratoev!
The experienced setter suffered an ankle injury in the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Nations League encounter against Australia, on June 2. After consulting with the doctors in Paris, France, where he went for additional examinations, it was decided that Bratoev will undergo surgery.
Bulgaria will play their first match in the World Championship against Finland on Day 1 (September 9) in Varna.
