WL 2017: Italy suffer 5th consecutive defeat, first victory for Poland in Varna!

It's not usual to see Italy suffering five consecutive defeats at any of the tournaments, but it has somehow happened.

Gianlorenzo Blengini’s team has suffered another defeat in the World League, decreasing a chance to grab a ticket for the Final Six tournament in Brazil. It is now impossible mission, especially after this loss against Russia 3-2 (31-33, 25-23, 21-25, 25-23, 15-10).

Italy are playing this edition of the World League with combined roster, without Ivan Zaytev and Osmany Jauntorena and according to the results they will probably miss the final tournament.

Giulio Sabbi had a stunning display, scoring 31 points while Iacoppo Botto had 23. On the winning side, Dmitry Volkov had 19 points and Maxim Zhigalov 16 points.

Poland have finally managed to score a victory in Varna. After suffering two defeats against Bulgaria and Brazil, Fefe de Giorgi’s side defeated Canada in four sets (25-21, 27-25, 20-25, 25-19).

Konarski (15 points), Lemanski (12 points), Bieniek (12) and Kubiak (10) were the players with double digits in Poland, while in Canada Barnes ended game with 15 points, Derocco with 13 and Hoag with 10 points.

World League Group 1, Weekend 2, Day 3:

Italy – Russia 2-3 (33-31, 23-25, 25-21, 23-25, 10-15)

Poland – Canada 3-1 (25-21, 27-25, 20-25, 25-19 )

Serbia – Belgium 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-20)

France – USA 18:30 CET

Iran – Argentina 18:40 CET

Brazil – Bulgaria 19:40 CET
